Pick a curiosity or take a peek behind the scenes...

“It’s still magic even if you know how it’s done.”
— Terry Pratchett

What is Soft Alchemy?

Soft Alchemy is about learning how the magic is done without losing the wonder.
It’s a place for collecting the small experiments that make everyday life feel more meaningful: from intentional routines and fun side projects to ambitious recipes, questionable garden plans, and the occasional descent into overcomplicated journaling systems.
Rather than presenting polished expertise, Soft Alchemy documents the process of learning, testing ideas, making mistakes, and occasionally succeeding. It's a collection of ongoing experiments in gardening, fermentation, cooking, learning, and everyday life, explored with equal parts curiosity, optimism, and healthy scepticism.

Echo says hello

Claire

Introducing Claire

Curious human & part-time chaos organiser. Claire spends an unreasonable amount of time writing to herself and eventually decided to adapt her journal for the wider world during a sabbatical with slightly too much time on her hands.
Unfortunately, said sabbatical also left far too much room for overthinking and the alarming tendency to turn small ideas into elaborate side projects.
She also feels extremely weird writing about herself in third person.

Echo

Introducing Echo

Soft Alchemy's small fluffy supervisor, always diligent in interrupting the writing process to announce that a pigeon has landed in the front garden.
Unsurprisingly this little papillon loves attention, long walks & treats, so keep an eye out for the Dog Approved posts... and unexpected Echo appearances.

James

Introducing James

Chief cheerleader & accidental proof-reader. Main responsibilities include complaining he’s not in enough photos and causing Claire to stay up coding past 3am, usually following the words, “Oh! Wouldn’t it be cool if...”
Among his best ideas so far are the self-writing logo, the flying quotes, and a certain fluffy trespasser hiding in the library.
